§ Cancellation policies

Plain language. Worked examples.

Each vendor sets the cancellation policy on each rate plan. The policy that applies to your booking is shown on the property page, on the cart, and on the confirmation email — nothing is hidden behind a footnote.

§ 01 · The policy types

  • Free cancellation up to 7 days

    You can cancel up to 7 days before check-in for a full refund. Inside 7 days, no refund.

    Example

    You book on 1 March for a 20 March check-in (19 days before). You cancel on 12 March (8 days before) — full refund. You cancel on 14 March (6 days before) — no refund.

  • Free cancellation up to 14 days

    Example

    You book on 1 March for a 25 March check-in (24 days before). You cancel on 5 March (20 days before) — full refund. You cancel on 14 March (11 days before) — no refund.

  • Flexible — 24-hour window

    Example

    You book on 1 March for a 20 March check-in. You cancel on 18 March — full refund. You cancel on 19 March evening — no refund.

  • Graduated — partial refund inside the window

    Refund proportion depends on how close to check-in you cancel. Common for resort + boutique-hotel rate plans.

    Refund tapers across two thresholds.

    Example

    A 5-night stay totalling USD 1,000. Cancel 40 days out: refund USD 1,000. Cancel 20 days out: refund USD 500. Cancel 10 days out: no refund.

  • Non-refundable

    Cancellation is not permitted. Often discounted up-front in exchange for the lack of flexibility.

    Example

    You book a USD 800 non-refundable rate (typically 10–15% cheaper than the flexible rate). Whatever your cancellation reason, the booking is not refunded.

§ 02 · What we don't do

  • • We do not auto-rebook to a different property without your written agreement.
  • • We do not charge cancellation fees beyond what the policy specifies.
  • • We do not change the policy after the booking is confirmed.
  • • We do not refund in a different currency than the one you paid in (unless local banking realities force a conversion, in which case we explain).

§ 03 · Force-majeure and the Maldives

Maldivian travel has real-world constraints that the policy catalogue above doesn't cover: seaplane cancellations for weather, atoll-airport closures, public-health orders. When these bite, we work with you and the vendor to find a fair outcome — usually a date change or a credit toward a future stay, depending on the situation. We don't hide behind the policy when the policy was not built for the situation.
